Another fun day in Cleveland

We got free tickets to another game last week, so we were up in Cleveland for another game today!

Memorial Day Weekend Twister Quilt

Despite having a gazillion other projects that have been setting on my cabinet and in the closet waiting to be tackled, I decided to start a patriotic twister quilt as a spur of the moment idea.  I think that I would have actually gotten the whole top assembled, and maybe even quilted had it not been for the power outage.  We lost power around 1:30 and it was out until almost 6 p.m.  I tried to work on the cutting for a little while – but it just wasn’t bright enough in the quilt room to see properly (and it’s not too safe to be playing with a rotary cutter in the dark!)

I made a smaller twister quilt (Primitive Pinwheels) a few weeks ago using Civil War repros and a template from Primitive Gatherings that I had purchased at Good Wives Co.  But I made this one using the June Tailor Twist ‘n Stitch ruler (available at JoAnn Fabrics).  Each of them have their pros and cons.  The template from Primitive Gatherings was quite small, almost too small.  The June Tailor ruler is one of the ones that has slits that you run your rotary cutter through.  I have got just about every one of these rulers on the market – and never had an issue.  But for some reason it was a little tricky getting my rotary cutter in the slits.  The nice part about the June Tailor ruler is that you can cut blocks in four different sizes – so you can make small wall hangings or larger quilts without having to buy different templates.

Trip to Good Wives Co. yesterday …

Got lots of great fat quarters, a book, and some batting during my trip to Good Wives Co. (Marion, OH) yesterday.  I was going to post a picture last night, but the storms came through and I had to shut down the computers.  Once again, it was another fun trip – all of the gals there are always so nice!

After the quilt shop, I drove over for a late lunch at Panera, and then a stop at Office Depot.  (I miss having one of those)  I purchased a new backup network drive that I’ll get installed this weekend.

Pot Holder Quilt

I’m off to a very slow start on my pot holder quilt.  I purchased all of the small kits at my favorite shop, Good Wives Co. (Marion, Ohio).  But for some reason my schedule has become crazy lately.  So far I’ve only gotten one block assembled, and I don’t even have the binding on it yet or quilted!  Eeek!

Origami Bow Tie Table Runner – Day 2

For some reason I was absolutely exhausted all day Monday.  I got very little done.  I had a small burst of energy about 9 p.m., and got about 4 more blocks done.  It’s really hard to see the dimensional aspect of this table runner in the photo.

Origami Bow Tie Table Runner – Day 1

I’ve had this kit for quite awhile … another great find at Good Wives Co. (Marion, Ohio).  Well, when I was over there (again) on Friday afternoon, I happened to walk in right as one of the employees was leading a small demonstration on how to make the origami bow tie block.  Another employee had demonstrated the block for me back when I got the kit, but like I said – that was awhile ago.  So this refresher was a great thing.

I got everything cut and ready to go on my project late this afternoon so I could sit and watch the Indians game and make blocks!  I got a few done.

Spring Toilet Tank Topper Kit – Day 1

I got this cute little kit at my favorite shop, Good Wives Co. (Marion, Ohio) on my last drive over there.  I didn’t start it ‘til late this evening, but it worked up in a jiffy.  I’ll do the quilting on Friday.  I think this will go with the wall color in our master bathroom.

Hourglass Block Swap – Halfway point

We’re about halfway through the hourglass block swap that started in January and will end in August.  I’ve been assembling my blocks into 16-block units as they’ve come back to me.  So now between the ones that I kept, and the ones that I swapped, I have ten 16-block units put together.  This won’t be the final layout, but I wanted to take a picture of how many were done.

Repro Mini Quilt – Day 1

Found a photo of this little quilt on the ‘net, and decided to see if I could make my own version of it.  Started this little quilt top about 10:30 this morning, and finished it up (including getting the binding cut and pressed) by 3:15 this afternoon.

Nine-Patch Doll Quilt for April (Day 1)

I really wasn’t going to do this month’s challenge quilt – but the fabric was laying on my sewing table (hadn’t been put away yet). Somehow I went from just sitting there assessing the condition of the sewing room (messy) to being at the ironing board ironing fat-eighth pieces from Barbara Brackman’s 1862 Battle Hymn line. The pattern was from Kathleen Tracy, part of her monthly small quilt challenge to the Small Quilt Talk group on Yahoo.  (if you like small quilts consider joining us!)

Blessing Baskets BOW (Week 5)

Got Block #5 done this evening, and followed it up with finishing the top.  Unfortunately the directions were a bit off – and caused me to have to do some finagling in order to get everything to go together.   I’ll tackle the quilting tomorrow!  (picture is a little blurry)

Got back into town in time to stop at the bank.  When the teller handed me the receipt, I promptly dropped it – and it flew under the car.  So I had to pull up far enough away from the building so that I could open my car door and get out.  Then I had to walk back toward the window and get the receipt off of the ground.  Thankfully there were no cars behind me in line!

I stopped for some chocolate milk for later, and then a quick drive to Wendy’s for a sandwich for dinner.  I was home by 5:30.
