720 Nickel Squares and 12 pot holder blocks

Over the weekend I posted some pictures of all of my great finds at the NQA Quilt Show in Columbus last Friday. One of the pictures showed all of the nickel square (5” squares) packets that I got at one of the Civil War / Reproduction fabric booths in the vendor mall. It was the booth where I spent the most money!  I ended up with 720 nickel squares. I took them all out of their wrappers last night, and made a big stack!  (talk about fun!)

Last Thursday I took my finished potholder blocks to my quilting day at OGS to show Janet and Sunda, who thought it would be neat to lay out all of the blocks to see how they all looked.

And then they flipped them all over …

This will not be the final layout for the quilt … I’ll probably try to mix up the lights and darks a little.  And since I’m doing all 24 blocks, there will be several more to add to the mix!

  1. I like the way your potholder quilt is coming together. I keep debating on whether to start one or not, even had a dream about it the other night. What a great find to have so many 5" CW prints, you will be ready for so many different projects. I like that you you used different fabrics on the back. I'm almost tempted to see if Good Wives has any kits left and would mail.
